Sambrook’s Brewery: Crafting Excellence Since 2008

2006

The Heart of London Brewing

Founded in the vibrant Battersea district by Duncan Sambrook and David Welsh in 2008, Sambrook’s Brewery began with a simple yet ambitious vision. A trip to the Great British Beer Festival in 2006 sparked an idea among Duncan and his university friends—to revive brewing in London’s heart.

2008

The Birth of Wandle Ale

Fast forward to September 2008, and Wandle Ale was born. This modern twist on a traditional best bitter quickly became—and remains—one of our best-selling beers. Wandle Ale is more than just a drink; it's a testament to our commitment to quality and innovation

2021

A New Chapter in Wandsworth

After 12 years of brewing excellence in Battersea, we outgrew our original home. In 2018, we embarked on an ambitious project to relocate to the historic Youngs Brewery site in Wandsworth. Following three years of meticulous planning—and a brief pause during the pandemic—our new brewery and taproom opened in July 2021.

Today

Tradition Meets Innovation

Our state-of-the-art brewery is more than a production site; it’s a continuation of a brewing legacy dating back to 1533. Visit our Heritage Centre to delve into our rich history and the storied past of our new home.

London’s brewing landscape has transformed dramatically. From just five breweries in 2008 to over 120 today, the city's brewing community is thriving. Throughout this evolution, Sambrook’s Brewery has remained a steadfast producer of exceptional craft beer, a proud member of the London brewing community, and a beacon of brewing heritage and innovation.

Community & Environment

Brewing at the Heart of the Community

Since our inception in 2008, Sambrook’s Brewery has been a pillar of the local community. We proudly support school fetes, sports clubs, musicians, and charities that share our London roots. Community engagement is a core value for us, and we’re dedicated to continuing this tradition through an ever-evolving range of charitable and community events.

Championing Inclusivity with Shaw Trust

Our latest partnership with Shaw Trust embodies our commitment to inclusivity. This collaboration supports individuals with disabilities and complex needs, providing them with training and work experience in our brewery and taproom. We are thrilled to welcome Shaw Trust graduate Ryan as a full-time member of the Sambrook’s team.

Sustainable Brewing

Founder Duncan Sambrook’s passion for sustainability drives our commitment to reducing waste and minimising our carbon footprint. We donate spent malt grains for cattle feed and capture carbon dioxide from fermentation to reuse in our canned and bottled beers. Sustainability is more than a practice; it's part of our future and ethos.
